Ditch the sponge, and check out this new must have cleaning item taking Australia by storm

July 9, 2018

We all know that kitchen sponges are a breeding ground for bacteria. They need to be cleaned every few days in the dishwasher or microwave, and thrown out every one to two weeks. Not only does it get super expensive purchasing kitchen sponges, they aren’t the best for the environment either, with all of them going to landfill.

Calling all environmentally conscious folks! If you’ve been wanting to minimise your costs of purchasing kitchen sponges and even minimising your use of disposable paper products this Beeutiful Swedish dishcloth might be what you’re after.

Although common in Sweden, these cloths are new to the Australian market and are quickly becoming a “must-have” here.

They’re made of earth-friendly 70% cellulose and 30% cotton. They need to be wet and when softened with water they’re a great alternative to sponges.

I also can’t tell you how often I need to wipe over benchtops throughout the day, and living with a toddler…. well… it’s like a tornado of destruction following you around the house all day. Anything to make my life easier is a big hit in my books!

This dishcloth is incredibly functional and long lasting; perfect for kitchen, bathroom, outdoors or anywhere something needs to be wiped up. Some people even use it to clean windows without leaving streaks or lint and polish silver without being abrasive.

I love that these cloths are super absorbent cloth and can hold up to 15 times its weight! Durable and strong, yet soft. #winner

This dishcloth lasts six months or longer with proper care. You simply wash it in dishwasher or washing machine or even the microwave. I wouldn’t use them to clean up meat or poultry juices though.

To dry you just hang up on the clothes line on a sunny day or air dry on a rack. And because they’re thin like a cloth they dry pretty quickly too! Which means less germs and less smell (unlike sponges which are so thick they take longer to dry and end up stinking)

When they’re worn out, you can pop them in the compost as they’re 100% biodegradable. How’s that for the environment?

Give them a go and you’ll never want to go back to sponges or regular cloths.

Benefits:

  • Earth-friendly: They’re made from 70% cellulose and 30% cotton which means you can pop them in the compost as they’re 100% biodegradable.

  • Durable: This dishcloth lasts six months or longer with proper care.

  • Versatile: There’s so many uses, for example: kitchen use, bathroom use, outdoors or anywhere something needs to be wiped up, cleaning windows without leaving streaks or lint and polishing silver.
