It’s no secret that women spend so much of our time focusing on the needs of those around us, often neglecting our own. I am sure most new mums can relate when that bundle of joy comes your needs take the back seat. In those early days, I barely had time to brush my teeth, let alone get dressed. Sleep deprived, I often preferred to have a nap then put on a face mask or book a pedicure. Because who has time for that?
Totally committed to breastfeeding, my little girl refused the bottle, so I found it difficult to leave her for prolonged periods in the early months. Also, being a stay at home mum, I literally never got a break. That moment I found out my new role is a 24-hour job, was not the best moment. Don’t get me wrong, I love caring for my child and being there to witness every milestone. But sometimes all that baby talk can drive you insane. Especially when you are naturally a career driven individual that thrives on meeting deadlines and adult conversations.
And then the time came when I burnt out. I was not only physically drained, but also mentally drained. Suffering from low iron and fatigue, there were days when I could barely make it out of bed let alone the front door. I literally had no energy. I was feeling irritable and depressed that I no longer had the stamina to do the things I once loved.
Mentally I was exhausted. Having a child depend on you, and only you, especially when you’re not feeling your optimum is unsettling. Having the responsibility of looking after everyone else around you and running a household, and then realising you cannot just get up and do whatever you want like your old life was also overwhelming at times.
Imagine you are driving a car and you are zooming around the city running errands for everyone around us, helping and caring for everyone else. However, you don't take the time out to look at the petrol gauge, and the fuel gets really low eventually running out. You are driving and eventually, you clonk out. That’s what happens, and it happened to me. I am sure some people have it much worse than me, but I was lucky I was able to get it under control before it caused any more damage.
So at that point, I decided that I needed to reshuffle things and put myself first. Not just to improve my physical health and appearance (and feel better about myself), but also to have that much needed “me time” that all mums thrive on. Having that sixty minutes of uninterrupted time, where you just sit and relax and not hear the words “mum” every second is heaven. You see, “me time”, or “mum time”, or “kid-free time” is necessary for our mental sanity. We all need an outlet. I took control of my health issues and also dedicated time to doing the things that made me feel good. Like pilates and beauty treatments, and I’ve never looked back.
My skin concerns
I have followed a great skincare regime my whole life. But the first year after having my daughter was the first time I let it slip. I was no longer cleansing my face twice a day, and I would always forget to moisturise and put on my SPF.
So when I finally came to get my first facial in almost two years, I wasn’t shocked when the beauty therapist said I had extremely dry skin with sun damage.
I had also noticed that because my skin was so dry, the area around my eyes seemed to look more aged. I hadn’t worn an eye cream in years. Not liking what I saw in the mirror, I started booking myself in for facials every six weeks and investing in good quality skin care products (and actually using them!). I noticed a drastic improvement in my skin, and it made me feel good.
After spending thousands of dollars on beauty treatments, I then realised that I needed to nourish my skin from within. I admit it, I often skip meals. It's just life with a toddler, so getting all my nutrients can be difficult. And this of course, wreaks havoc on my skin. What is the point of spending all this money on beauty products, if you’re not eating the right foods and drinking enough water? It’s counterproductive.
So when I came across Beauty Boosters, I was over the moon, because it was exactly what I was looking for. Getting the extra help to nourish my skin from within.
I’ve been taking the Collagen-C, Complexion Perfection and Glow Getter capsules for around six weeks now, and I can confidently say these vitamins have taken my skin to the next level. Within one week of taking them, I noticed a drastic improvement in my skin. I've had people comment that my skin is glowing.
I also found that they were easy to swallow, and for my body to digest. I didn’t get an upset stomach from them, and they even increased my energy levels!
My regime involved taking 2 capsules of the Collagen-C, 6 capsules of the Complexion Perfection and 1 capsule of the Glow Getter, daily.
Taken in conjunction with a good skin care regime, my skin has never looked so good. It is so hydrated, and I rarely break out now. It's also helped with pigmentation. As a result, I don't need to put as much makeup on. In fact, I love going bare-faced now whereas before I would always feel self-conscious when I didn't have makeup on.
Beauty Boosters has changed my life, and I hope it does for you too. Here’s a quick guide to the different capsules:
The Collagen-C capsules contain vitamin C which supports the production of collagen and connective tissues within the body essential to maintaining healthy skin. This unique formula offers the antioxidant Vitamin C to aid in the repair of and encourage healthy skin. It assists to reduce the risk of cell damage from free radicals.
These capsules provide a balanced blend of oils to deliver natural 3, 6 & 9 fatty acids. Complexion Perfection contains fish oil, a natural source of Omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA that are essential for normal growth and development. Omega 3 fatty acids are very important as the body cannot produce them and we can therefore only obtain them from the diet. Evening Primrose oil is a natural source of Gamma-linolenic acid and traditionally used in herbal medicine to assist in the relief of dry, itchy skin conditions.
Glow Getter contains nutrients involved in connective tissue and repair, plus antioxidants that may reduce the risk of cellular damage from free radicals. It has zinc, silicon, biotin and MSM. These capsules are rich in Riboflavin and were created to promote the healthy growth of skin, hair and nails.
I hope my story has reminded you to look after yourself physically and emotionally. What happens if you don’t? You may burn out and become unhappy.
As mums, it’s so important to fill our own cup up first. We can’t pour from an empty cup. It is not selfish, it is necessary.
